Creating content for your community website

Add some news!

A news page is an excellent way of showing that your web site is being regularly updated. It’s also a way of getting regular visitors to your site as they will be more likely to regularly check your site for any recent news. A word of advice though - if you do have a news page, you do have to make sure that it is kept up to date as an out of date news page can look worse than not having one at all and can reflect badly on your group.

On your news page you could have:

  • Latest news and developments. For example, if you are a sports club, you could include the results of the latest match or tournament. You can enhance this section by using photos to back up your news items.

  • Online newsletter. If you have a printed newsletter, why not put it online. That way it reaches a wider audience. You could also cut down the cost of printing by getting members who are connected to the Internet to view it online instead.

  • News archive. As well as a latest news section you could include an archive of past news events. Again, you could include any photos from past news stories.
