Lesson 3 - Finding Kewords for your website.

What’s the first thing I should do?
A part of successful search engine optimisation of web pages is working out what keywords your prospective visitors might type in to a search engine to find your site. So firstly:

1. Compile a list of the main keywords and keyword phrases that you would expect your target audience to use to find your website. Once you have determined those keywords, you need to narrow them down to 3 to 5 main words or phrases. Make sure these keywords relate to the topic of your site and that particular page.

2. Once you have selected your keywords the next step is to place them in the following places
• The DESCRIPTION and KEYWORD META TAGS
• The page’s TITLE tag
• The first paragraph of body text. Try and repeat these keywords 1 or 2 times on the page
• In the text of any links that point to the page.
Alt tags of images in your webpage

I will now go through each one of these.
