Lesson 5
- The Keywords Tag
The
Keywords Tag
This tag should include a list of all
the keywords that relate to your site content. Use the keywords
you have specified when you first created your list. It is most
important you put these keywords in the Home page but it is also
a good idea to add keywords for each page.
For your home page you could add keywords
that are a summary of your site, for example, some of the keywords
for a history group in Blaenavon may be “Blaenavon Local history
group, industrial history, agricultural history, family history,
Welsh history, South Wales”. However, for a page which details
industrial history you could add keywords more specific to that
particular page, for example “industrial history, coal, iron,
coalmining, Blaenavon Ironworks, industrial revolution, South Wales”.
To add keywords
in Dreamweaver
1. From the Insert Panel
select the head tag.
2. Select the keyword icon

3. Type in your list of keywords or keyword
phrases. Put the most important keywords first. Separate each keyword
or keyword phrase by a comma.
Note:
• Do not repeat any single keyword that is not contained within
a phrase: “history, history, history” would be considered
as a spamming attempt, whereas “Local history, Blaenavon history,
Industrial history” would be acceptable.
• Remember that keywords have to
also appear in the document content. Search Engine robots are programmed
to look out for cheats and repeating words which don’t appear
in the content is classed as spamming.
• Keywords are not case sensitive
so a search for “Local History” is the same as “local
history”
